In 1990, four families left from the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Washington to start the new church plant, initially named the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Northern Virginia (TPCNV). The church began holding services in the Oakton area. In 1995, the church called its first pastor, Rev. John Yieh.

In 2001, TPCNV moved to its current facility, previously Chesterbrook Presbyterian Church, and changed its name to Chesterbrook Taiwanese Presbyterian Church (CTPC). Soon after that, the church called its first English Ministry pastor, Kenneth Liu.

The English Ministry (EM) of CTPC started as a ministry to primarily high school students. Over the years, it developed into a multi-generational ministry that included high school to young adults to young families. In 2012, Rev. Kenneth Liu departed CTPC EM and was replaced by Rev. Young Park as the interim EM pastor.

In 2021, CTPC decided to reorganize the structure of the church. Until that point, CTPC was like many other immigrant churches. The Taiwanese Ministry was the primary congregation in the church, and the English Ministry was a special subsection of the larger church. As such, the Lead/Senior Pastor was the Pastor of the Taiwanese Ministry and the Pastor of the English Ministry would be his Associate.

But in 2021, CTPC was reorganized as two equal congregations under one church. Each congregation, TM and EM, would call its own pastors. And each pastor would equally serve as Lead pastors for both their specific congregation, and for the whole church.

In 2022, the TM called Rev. Yatang Chuang to be the full-time Co-Pastor for the TM. And the EM called Rev. Young Park to be the full-time Co-Pastor for the EM.

Our History

1990
Four Families from the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Washington (Wheaton, MD) planted a church called Taiwanese Presbyterian Mission of Northern Virginia.
