I would agree with you on the most part. What the book is arguing for is not to abandon our reason in favor of our emotions, but to recognize its place rather than dismiss them altogether which is what is often taught. Eliot finds is curious (as do I, now that I think about it), that we intellectualize emotional words like love, joy, anger, etc. as words to be thought, but not felt. For most Christians, these words are conceptual, but not experiential. But is that what God had in mind?</description>
